We have worked hard to revise our elementary report cards to make them more user friendly, consistent and aligned with research-based methods of reporting student mastery of content based on grade level standards. Many families had indicated that the old report cards were difficult to understand and inconsistent.
A committee was formed where teachers and administrators reviewed other districts' reporting. The team then reviewed standards, ensured vertical articulation and aligned the standards with our curriculum. Feedback was gathered from all grade level teachers and report cards were revised accordingly.
The new report card includes two portions Performance Indicators and Learner Qualities. Performance indicators are standards that are taught each trimester in all classes and Learner Qualities are work habits and qualities that enhance students' ability to learn.
Our Learner Qualities align with the High School Vision of Graduate to ensure that we instill the same qualities in our students throughout their time in Scituate schools. Students have been introduced to the Learner Qualities and we have placed posters in each classroom. Teachers have taken some time to review what each component looks like at each grade level.
We understand that there are some shifts in the reporting of students' progress towards mastering grade level standards, to that end we invite you to attend a virtual Information Night on November 21, 2024 at 6:00 PM. Please see the flyer for sample report cards, a form to submit any questions you may have, and the link for the meeting.
We are here to help and welcome your comments/questions.
