Seventh-grade students are finishing up their mid-year writing assessment! They read two articles about changing school start times, then created an argument to defend a later arrival to school. They did a great job finding, explaining, and citing textual evidence. We are impressed by how much students have improved in their writing growth since September!

Our Scituate Spartan freshmen put on a strong performance at the Freshman State Championships, showing their speed, endurance, and talent!
55m: Logan Wood – 8.06
300m: Christopher D’Iorio – 40.31, Kole Yeaw – 43.74, Joseph Jacavone – 46.48, Logan Wood – 52.73
1500m: Jackson Downs – 5:31.96, Fallon Green – 5:39.67
4x200m Relay: Kole Yeaw, Jackson Downs, Joseph Jacavone, and Christopher D’Iorio placed 6th with 1:49.84!
Long Jump: Christopher D’Iorio secured 3rd place with an impressive jump of 18-9!

Students in US I received a special visit from Jacob Gansert, class of 2018, who now works for the Board of Elections. Jacob held a mock election for the class and demonstrated how elections in Rhode Island are safe and secure while showing students how voting machines operate!

SMS Cheer team competed in their first competition of the season. While it didn't end the way they'd hoped, the girls were on fire! We are so proud of them all.
The SHS Childhood Education Academy visited students at North Scituate last week to teach a lesson on kindness! High school students designed puzzles, a bingo game, and workbooks to help teach elementary students the importance of being kind to others.

North Scituate students in Miss Cuttle's class used some traditional board games for extra math practice in January. Students worked in collaborative groups and used white boards to solve the problems!
Yesterday, Hope students had a special visit from New York Times Best Selling Author Marc Colagiovanni. Marc talked to students about how he came to be an Author and the importance of pursuing your dreams. Students were thrilled to have Marc read his books, "When Things Aren't Going Right, Go Left" and "The Reflection in Me."

Last Wednesday was an incredible moment for senior Ava Pilderian as she officially signed as a DI athlete with Bryant University! A fitting way to celebrate National Women and Girls in Sports Day! It is also an incredible moment of pride for Scituate! Ava, we wish you an exceptional college career and we can’t wait to follow your progress! Congratulations again to Ava and her family!
Third grade experts at North Scituate shared books they researched and wrote on weather phenomena with classmates. Students found teaching others what they learned to be so much fun! Well done, Mrs. DiLuglio's class!

Hope students in Grades K-2 began a multi-week afterschool karate class thanks to an opportunity offered by North East Family Martial Arts! This program promotes physical fitness, character education, respect, focus, and increased confidence, along with lots of fun!
The Spartans played Blackstone Valley Prep last week and had a winning score of 71-56. The team had great energy from the bench and good defense. Andy Vigeant, Ryan Larsh and Cam Healey were the leading scorers.
